Alongside the technical improvements is a broader understanding of responsible AI. Microsoft emphasizes that human oversight will remain a core element, and organizations must set boundaries for what agents can and cannot do. A new generation of AI companions, like the Copilot Companion, will make everyday tasks easier—providing news and weather updates, understanding web content, and helping with decision-making.
At the same time, AI infrastructure is becoming more efficient. Although data center workloads have increased ninefold since 2010, power consumption has only increased by 10 %. Microsoft is working with partners like AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA to build more efficient hardware—from custom chips (Azure Maia and Cobalt) to liquid cooling. The company is aiming for data centers that don’t use water for cooling and rely on low-carbon materials and renewable energy. This will make AI solutions more environmentally friendly and sustainable, which is key for the future.
