АИ (borrowed from the English AI) is short for artificial intelligence, and as of October 2026 you can use a free AI chat in Bulgarian in OpenAI's ChatGPT , Google's Gemini , Microsoft Copilot, Claude and the Bulgarian BgGPT. Each of them lets you chat with artificial intelligence in Bulgarian, and most also let you talk to it out loud. You do not need a subscription for AI in Bulgarian: a browser or a phone is enough.
We compare the free plans using the companies' official pages, checked on 28 October 2026. Free limits change often, so every figure here is as of that date. Prices are taken from the official pages for Bulgaria, for example ChatGPT pricing and Claude pricing; ChatGPT and Google do not say whether their prices include VAT. "No list of languages" means the company does not officially list the languages supported in voice mode.
There is no single winner for everyone: choose by the last column and by the task you do most often. According to Statcounter, which measures clicks from AI chats through to websites, around 81% of those clicks in Bulgaria in September 2026 came from ChatGPT, while Gemini's share was about 14%, up from 1.1% a year earlier.
ChatGPT in Bulgarian: what the free plan gives you
If you are looking for ChatGPT in Bulgarian, open chatgpt.com, the ninth most visited website in Bulgaria according to Similarweb's ranking for September 2026. Bulgarian is an officially supported interface language and switches on automatically based on your browser language.
The free plan runs on a lighter model than the paid plans. Text chats have no stated limit, but OpenAI may restrict them in cases of abuse. Files (3 a day), images, voice and deep research each have their own limits. In a single conversation the free plan remembers about 27,000 tokens (a token is part of a word), roughly 12 pages, so a long contract may not fit in full.
ChatGPT also works without signing up: in Europe you can hold only one conversation at a time, and it is not kept after you close the browser. You cannot upload files or photos, though, and OpenAI states that these conversations may be used to improve its models.
Since late August 2026 the free plan and Go have shown ads in 31 European countries, which according to media reports include Bulgaria. The ads are labelled and sit below the answers, and OpenAI says advertisers do not receive your conversations. Go (€6.50 a month) gives you more messages, images and voice but may also show ads, while Plus (€23 a month) is ad-free and has stronger reasoning models.
According to digital.bg in June 2026, ChatGPT is also built into Viber for users in Bulgaria: you message it like any other contact, and you do not need an OpenAI account for the basic features.
Gemini and AI Mode in Google
Gemini (in Cyrillic, people often search for it as Джемини АИ) is Google's AI chat. Bulgarian is officially supported on the web and in the mobile app, but on Android the "Hey Google" command and some actions do not work in Bulgarian.
Free Gemini runs in "Auto" mode, mostly on the fast Flash-Lite model. The limit resets every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit. Images, Deep Research and Gemini Live on your phone are also free. Google AI Plus costs €4.99 a month and AI Pro €21.98, according to the official Gemini plans page.
A note for businesses: as of October 2026, Google does not include Bulgarian in its list of languages for Gemini in Gmail, Docs and the other Workspace apps. If you are considering a subscription mainly for emails in Bulgarian, check this first.
If you are searching for "AI mode", this refers to AI Mode in Google Search: instead of a list of results you get a summarised answer with links. It is officially available in Bulgaria and in Bulgarian.
Copilot, Claude, BgGPT and other AI chats
Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft officially lists Bulgarian for text prompts and for Copilot Voice in its list of supported Copilot languages, updated in September 2026. Free Copilot requires a personal Microsoft account: as of October 2026, copilot.microsoft.com redirects to copilot.com, where the chat starts with a sign-in. With an account you get history, images and voice.
Claude
Anthropic's Claude is available in Bulgaria. Its interface is not in Bulgarian, but you can hold the conversation in Bulgarian. The free plan includes the Sonnet and Haiku models, web search and file creation. Voice mode is in beta on all plans, and Anthropic does not list the languages it works in.
BgGPT
BgGPT is the AI chat from the INSAIT institute at Sofia University. Version 3.0 was released in March 2026: the chat is free, has apps for iOS and Android, recognises images and speech, analyses documents and searches the web. Conversations are used for training only if you give consent, which you can grant or withdraw at any time in your account settings. According to the privacy policy, the data processors are in Bulgaria or the EU/EEA, but transfers outside the EEA are also permitted under the conditions of the GDPR.
INSAIT fine-tuned the BgGPT models on Google's Gemma 3, and businesses can download them for free; according to media reports, the National Revenue Agency runs them on its own hardware. DeepSeek and Meta AI
The DeepSeek app lists Bulgarian among its languages, but according to the company's February 2026 policy, data is stored in China. Meta AI launched in the EU in March 2025 without Bulgarian, and we found no official confirmation of Bulgarian support in WhatsApp and Messenger.
Talking to AI by voice: which AI speaks Bulgarian
ChatGPT Voice is included in the free plan too, with limited access every 24 hours, while Go and Plus give 3 hours every 24 hours. Since July 2026, voice mode has run on the GPT-Live models, which listen and speak at the same time: you can interrupt an answer as you would in a normal conversation. According to OpenAI's description , the free plan uses the lighter GPT-Live-1 mini, while the paid plans use GPT-Live-1. OpenAI does not publish how well they understand Bulgarian. The 15 October 2026 update added new voices for several languages. Bulgarian is not among them, but you can set the spoken language in the voice settings. Voice with video is available from the Go plan upwards.
Gemini Live is free in the mobile app for Android and iOS, but not in the web version. You can show it an object through the camera or share your screen and ask about it. Google does not publish a list of languages for Live, so test for yourself how well it understands your speech.
Copilot Voice supports Bulgarian, according to Microsoft as of September 2026, and like the rest of Copilot it requires signing in with a Microsoft account. BgGPT 3.0 also recognises speech.

Which AI chat for which task: writing, translation, images, documents
The best AI chat depends on the task:
- Writing. All the major chats write in Bulgarian. If the text sounds translated, give it an example of your own style. BgGPT was fine-tuned specifically on Bulgarian text (around 85 billion Bulgarian tokens, according to INSAIT's figures for the 2024 version).
- Translation. Every one of these chats translates, and Gemini supports more than 65 languages. For a contract or a text going to print, ask for a back-translation and have someone fluent in the language check anything important.
- Images. ChatGPT and Gemini create images on the free plan as well, with daily limits but no published number. Copilot creates images with a free Microsoft account.
- Voice. Gemini Live, ChatGPT Voice and Copilot Voice (see above).
- Search. Perplexity (3 free Pro searches a day), Google's AI Mode and ChatGPT search. Check the sources: in an EBU and BBC study from October 2025, almost half of AI assistants' answers about the news had at least one significant issue.
- Documents. Free ChatGPT accepts 3 files a day and holds about 12 pages in one conversation, while free Gemini holds about 14 pages (32,000 tokens). For long documents, the paid plans offer much more.

A prompt is the instruction you type into the chat. The more specific it is, the less you have to fix afterwards. Replace the text in square brackets and run the prompt in any AI chat.

Five features few people know about (as of October 2026):
- Temporary chat. In ChatGPT, temporary chats are not used for training and are kept for up to 30 days; in Gemini, for 72 hours.
- Locked chats in ChatGPT. Since 20 October 2026 you can hide a conversation and open it with a PIN, including on the free plan.
- A free year of Google AI Plus for students. Students in Bulgaria aged over 18 can claim it until 31 December 2026; a payment method is required, and afterwards the subscription renews at €4.99 a month unless you cancel it.
- Gemini for Windows. Since 10 September 2026 there has been a Windows app, which opens with Alt+Space.
- ChatGPT without ads and without paying. In regions with ads, OpenAI lets free users switch them off in exchange for fewer messages and without some tools.
Personal data and security: what not to type into a free AI chat
On personal ChatGPT accounts, conversations are used to train the models by default. You can turn this off in the data controls settings, as OpenAI's help centreexplains, but a thumbs-up or thumbs-down rating can still send the whole conversation for training. With Gemini, if activity saving is switched on, some conversations are read by human reviewers and kept for up to 3 years, even if you delete your history. Claude asks you whether it may use your conversations for training, while Perplexity and Mistral have training switched on by default.
So do not put any of the following into a free or personal AI chat:
- customers' names, phone numbers, email addresses and national ID numbers;
- health data;
- contracts with confidential terms;
- passwords, access keys, bank and card details;
- internal financial reports.
There is a legal reason too: under the GDPR, your business remains the controller of its customers' data, and a personal account does not come with a data processing agreement. Business plans such as ChatGPT Business, Gemini in Google Workspace and Copilot Chat with a work account do not train models on company data by default.
AI chats make mistakes with confidence, which is why OpenAI itself advises treating an answer as a first draft and checking figures, quotes and sources. Age limits differ as well. ChatGPT is for ages 13 and up (or the minimum age in the relevant country), with parental permission under 18. For a standalone Google account, which you need for Gemini, Google gives 16 as the minimum age in Bulgaria. Claude is for adults only, and BgGPT is for ages 14 and up.

Two things set a customer-facing agent apart from a personal chat. First, it has to answer from verified data: in 2024 a Canadian tribunal ruledthat Air Canada was liable for incorrect information its website's chatbot had given a customer.
